Each of our weekly sessions is led by Emma Bishton, an enthusiastic and experienced musical director. Emma plays her keyboard whilst conducting the group….a lady of many skills!
We start each session with a warm up which is followed by an hour of singing. When we are singing for fun Emma uses our song requests to structure the session in contrast to performance practice when she sets the songs that we sing.
Sessions are not mandatory for choir membership you can attend as much or as little as you like however the more you attend, the more you enjoy! We all lead very busy lives and it is only to be expected members will not be able to attend every session.
St Mary’s Church very kindly offers us both the church and the church hall as a place to practice.

- We meet every Tuesday in term time from 7 pm until 8.45 pm
- A subscription of £6 is payable on a half termly basis.
- A free folder containing words and music will be provided once you return your membership forms. We very kindly ask that your folder is returned to the choir if you decide to leave for any reason.
- Please bring your folder to each choir session.
- In order to give all choir members an equal voice, we form a committee and elect officers on an annual basis. Committee meetings are held on a regular basis and choir members are encouraged and very welcome to put forward suggestions and raise issues for the committee to consider.
- We are a very friendly choir and some members keep in touch via a WhatsApp group. It is entirely your choice whether you join this group. There is a separate What’s App Admin group which is used by the Chair and the Secretary to communicate with members. If you have a Smartphone we would ask you to join the What’s App Admin group. Email is also used to communicate with members and you will receive information and updates from both the Chair and the Secretary on a semi regular basis.
- Protocols and procedures related to the management and administration of the choir are laid down in our Constitution. You will find a copy of the constitution in your welcome pack which we very kindly ask you to read.
- It has been agreed by Choir members that we should follow a dress code when we perform in public, details of the code are available in the Choir Constitution.
We are quite a social group and a number of choir members extend their Tuesday evenings by meeting in The Queen’s Head, West Bergholt immediately after practice. As a new member, you are more than welcome to join us.
